Business and social networking and education are just part of the many benefits that exist once you become a member of the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association. Established in 1985, our chapter continues to grow its membership, ranking in the upper third in chapter size nationally. We have very informative and educational luncheon presentations that consistently provide the opportunity for the education of our current and future financial professionals. Our chapter has been very proactive in its activities, as it has achieved many national awards including the President’s and the Distinguished Progress Awards. The National CFMA office awards these annually to each chapter that achieves a specific number of points for activities deemed crucial to the success of the chapter.
Local chapter dues are $130 annually and entitle the member to attend ten events (mostly luncheons and associated speaker presentations). You can refer to our events tab to see our upcoming as well as past events. Almost all luncheon speaker presentations qualify for CPE credit. One event is usually a jobsite tour of a high profile facility either under construction or just recently completed. Most job site tours have been followed by a social gathering at a local establishment. Another event that you are entitled to attend is our annual Construction Financial Professional of the Year banquet held in April. All financial professionals (general members only) are eligible for this award and nomination forms are sent to the executive that the financial professional reports to. Each nomination completed and returned is evaluated by the committee, compared to predetermined criteria and the winner determined. Former winners are Mike Fitzpatrick (TD Industries), Jim Schranz (Austin Industries), Mark Layman (Balfour Beatty) and Jeff Cormican (Austin Bridge & Road).
Our educational efforts focus not only on the current but the future as well. In May of each year we hold our annual golf tournament. The success of this event has allowed the chapter to give several thousands of dollars to deserving recipients who will major in finance/accounting in the construction industry. You can refer to our education tab/scholarship recipients to see a listing of the individuals who have received these scholarships over the past several years. We usually offer two educational classes during the year. They can range from the basics of construction accounting to advanced classes in cash management. With the development of the Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation, we also offer a review course for individuals interested in obtaining this certification. Presently, eight of our chapter members possess this certification.
The opportunity to network with your peers and other individuals whose services compliment the construction industry is an intangible benefit and can be of extreme value to you and the organization that you represent. Where else can you go and have access to some of the best financial professionals in the construction industry and the vast experience that they represent. We encourage you take advantage of the chance to rub elbows with our membership, discuss problems, exchange ideas and most of all, to develop new friendships. This organization is a whole lot more then just debits and credits.
Please take the time to explore the various aspects of our website and experience the excitement of what membership is all about. Feel free to contact one of our board members and find out first hand what this organization has done for these individuals. If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact our membership/retention chair, Lynne Brown Meers. She can be reached at 214-280-8777 or via email at
